The community asset transfer of libraries: Considerations in community managed libraries taking a lease.

Forbes, D. and Nichols, G. (2020) The community asset transfer of libraries: Considerations in community managed libraries taking a lease. Research Report. Power to Change.

Abstract

Since April 2011, at least 576 libraries have been transferred to being run entirely by volunteers for some of the time. This report by Sheffield University Management School and Newcastle Business School examines the community asset transfer process whereby library services are taken into community ownership and the impact on libraries’ long-term sustainability. The authors use the community libraries in a anonymised northern town as a case study and relate their findings to national research.
